Murchison National park is located in the northern part of Albertine Rift Valley. A place where the massive Bunyoro escarpment joins into the plains of Acholi land. It’s well known to be one of the most Uganda’s conservation areas. it was set up as a game reserve to protect the savannah grassland. The park is known for receiving international visitorsThe park is borded by woodland, wetland, savannah as well as tropical forest that is known to be a habitant for over 76 mammal species and over 450 different bird species. Among the big mammals include hippo, Rothschild’s giraffe, warthlog, cape buffalo, Uganda kob, hartebeest and elephantsThe Nile corridor of Murchison has a big collection of water birds such as rare shoebill stork and also has a large concentration of Nile crocodile. Kaniyo Pabidi forest is a home to primates, chimpanzees and over 360 species of different birds.
The activities done at Murchison national park include Game drives, chimp trekking in Rabongo Forest, and en route from Masindi in the Budongo Forests, birding watching trips, boat trips to lake albert delta , community tours, fishing at the base of the Falls.
